George was born c1945 and is from the Pintupi people of the central and western deserts. His ancestral country covers the sites around Wala Wala, Kiwirrkura, Lake Mackay, Kulkuta, Karku and Kilpinya to the north-west of Kintore. He began painting for the famed Papunya Tula Artists about 1976. George paints the Tingari stories for this region. The Tingari Cycle refers to the travels of the ancient Tingari people, who travelled the land in mythological times. One of George’s many achievements was the winning of the 2004 Wynne prize of the Gallery of NSW for his topographical depiction of the Western Desert. He has exhibited in many exhibitions and galleries over the years and his work is highly regarded. He is represented in many public and private collections here and overseas.
