Gloria was born c1945 at Utopia, and is an Anmatyerre speaker. Gloria’s country is the inspiration for all her art, which began with batiks. She exhibited with the Utopia Women in shows around Australia and abroad for many years, before taking up the medium of canvas and paint. Gloria’s work has increased in scale and precision over recent years and she is now regarded as one of our most significant artists. Her seven sisters are all artists and include Nancy, Violet ,Kathleen and Ada Bird Petyarre. Gloria was traditionally raised and has great knowledge of her country’s dreamings. In 1999, Gloria was the winner of the prestigious Wynne Prize for her Bush Medicine painting “Leaves Blowing In The Wind”. Gloria’s work is very highly regarded and her paintings are widely exhibited and collected. Owning one of her paintings is an investment in art and beauty. |
