Long Jack Phillipus Tjakamarra
![]() Long Jack Phillipus Tjakamarra Long Jack was born c1932 at Kalipimpa, northeast of Kintore. This place is considered an important Rain Dreaming site. As a traditional Warlpiri man, he spent his early years in the bush country, west of Mt. Farewell. When he was a teenager, his family moved to Haast’s Bluff. He found employment there, working as a stockman and a timber contractor. He is married with two sons, three daughters and many grandchildren. In the early 70s, he served as a councilor at Papunya and became involved in the early painting movement there. He and others, including Billy Stockman, painted the murals that led to the modern acrylic on canvas paintings. Long Jack paints the Wallaby, Kingfisher, Hare, Dingo, Fire and Water Dreamings of his country. He is an ordained Lutheran Pastor and his traditional Aboriginal images have spiritual and religious overtones. |
