Narpula Scobie Napurrula

Narpula was born c1933 and is a Pintupi/Pitjanjara speaker. She grew up around the Haast’s Bluff region, moving to Papunya during its settlement in the early 1960’s. She is the younger sister of well known artist Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula and was married to one of the earliest Papunya Tula artists, Johnny Scobie Tjapanangka (deceased).Narpula began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in the early 1980’s and was one of the first and few women at the time to do so. She paints bush food stories and women’s body paint ceremonies.Narpula has achieved considerable success over her career and her paintings are held in many collections locally and overseas.
