Ngoia Pollard Napaltjarri
| Ngoia was born c1948 in Haast’s Bluff. Her husband, Jack Tjampitjinpa Pollard (deceased), was an important artist in the Papunya Tula Artist’s Community.Ngoia now has a special custodianship responsibility for her country. She paints her father’s country, which is a sacred Walpiri territory associated with stories of the water snake which lives beneath the surface.The oval shapes in her paintings are iconographic representations of the swamps and lakes near Nyrripi (Talarada) north west of Mt. Liebig, where Ngoia lives. This is the area where her father hunted in the past.In 2004, Ngoia received First Prize in the Advocate Central Australian Award and in 2006 was the winner of the prestigious Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award of $40,000.00 Her work was considered by the judges to be the most outstanding work in the Exhibition.Her work is highly collectable and is represented in numerous galleries and private and corporate collections in Australia and Europe. |
