 Polly Painting Bush Plum Dreaming
Polly was born c 1940 into the Anmatyarr language group at Camel Camp in Utopia Northern Territory. She now lives with her extended family and sisters Kathleen Ngala and Maisy Ngala and AngelinePwerle Ngala.
Like many women in Utopia, Polly began her artistic career in batik and like others then changed to painting with acrylics on canvas. By assisting her sister Kathleen and also the late Emily Kngwarreye with whom she shared the same country, Polly became a very skilled artist. Arlparra is her country from her father’s side and Kurrajong Bore her mothers country.
Polly is a senior custodian of the Bush Plum Dreaming together with her sisters.Polly brilliantly depicts the Bush Plum and its effects on her country.
She shows the topography in shades of reds oranges and yellows reflecting the varying seasonal changes. Her technique builds up layer upon layer of colour creating a multidimensional effect to reveal the Bush Plum in her country.
Polly’s works are a joy to behold as they are so colourful and complex at the same time. She is seen in many private collections in Australia and has held exhibitions here and overseas. Her works are sought after and enjoyed by many.
