Walangkura was born c1940 in the bush, west of Kintore, in the Gibson Desert near the NT/WA border. She is a Pintupi speaker and came in from the desert with her family in 1956, to the settlement of Haasts Bluff. She now lives at Kintore.

She began her painting career in 1995 and joined the renowned Papunya Tula Artists in 1996. Her bold and vibrant paintings tell of the creation stories and ceremonial sites associated with the Pintupi homelands.

Unfortunately, due to failing eyesight and ill-health, Walangkura is no longer able to paint. Her marvellous artwork is on display in public and private collections worldwide and is very collectable.

Julie was born in Yuendumu in 1973, a member of the Warlpiri clan. She is one of the five daughters of Telstra Award winning artist, Dorothy Napangardi. Mentored by her talented mother, Julie has developed a creative style of her own.

Julie paints graphically minimal (dot style) designs of her country Pirlinyanu, a land of rocky outcrops and deep water springs. Her main Dreaming is of this important water source near Mina Mina, for which she is now traditional custodian.

Her first exhibition was held jointly with her mother, at the Holmes A Court gallery in Perth in 2004. With such an upbringing in Aboriginal culture and art, Julie is a new generation artist to follow, as her popularity can only grow.

Margaret is a Warlpiri woman who was born in the mid 1950s on Mt Doreen Station, northwest of Alice Springs, in the Simpson Desert of central Australia. She is the sister of the famous artist, Dorothy Robinson Napangardi and daughter of esteemed artist and senior law man, Paddy Lewis Japanangka, who introduced her to painting.

Margaret was brought up “bush” in the Mina Mina area of the Warlpiri lands. This area and the Dreamings associated with it, form part of the recurring themes in her paintings. She now lives at Yuendumu, about 300 kms northwest of Alice Springs, with her skin sister Judy Watson Napangardi.

Margaret’s style reflects the Warlpiri delight in adventurous combinations of colour and the influences of Judy and her now deceased sister, Maggie Watson Napangardi, are seen in her work. Her art has evolved into several unique styles which relate to her inherited Dreaming stories.

Her work has been featured in Exhibitions in Australia and overseas.

Patricia was born in 1983 in Kintore, NT. She is a young Pintupi woman from a family of artists, granddaughter to famous Papunya Tula artist, Walangkura Napanangka.

She began her painting career by assisting her grandmother Walangkura with the background dotting on paintings. She commenced painting in her own right in 2009.

As an emerging artist, she paints the traditional stories of her country in a contemporary and vibrant style of bold linear designs, circles and fine dot work. Her paintings are expressive, dynamic images with bright colour combinations. She is an artist to watch for in the future.

This painting depicts her home land and shows the areas where women would hold their traditional ceremonies.

Kathleen was born c1940 in the remote spinifex country of Atnankere, an important water soakage for Aboriginal people, on the western boundary of Utopia Station. She belongs to the Anmatyerre clan group and speaks Eastern Anmatyerre, with English as a second language.During childhood, Kathleen traveled around her vast homelands with her extended family, according to the seasonal availability of bush foods and water. She learned land navigation and acquired a spatial understanding of the country.

Kathleen and her family later settled at Mosquito Bore near Utopia and were involved in the successful claim for land title to Utopia Station by the traditional custodians.

As a painter, Kathleen is one of the most successful and collectable of Australian artists.

This particular painting celebrates the Mountain Devil Lizard or Thorny Devil. This is a relatively small spiky lizard which lives in the desert and travels long distances, changing colour according to the environment, like a chameleon. Kathleen’s paintings convey the vast landscape and the journeys of this hardy traveler.

Kathleen’s life and art are the subject of a beautiful book titled “Genius of Place”.

Josie was born c1953 into the Alyawarre/Anmatyerre language group. While born in Santa Teresa, about 80 kms south of Alice Springs, she has lived most of her life at the isolated and scattered Utopia community, 250 kms northeast of Alice Springs.

Josie began painting around 1992 and within a short period displayed innovative interpretations of her Dreamings, culture and religion through a bold and dynamic approach to composition and colour.

Her paintings depict the landscape and the seasonal cycle of wild bush berry plants and their seeds. The barren desert landscape is transformed after rain into abundant vegetation and the women gather the edible berries, which are a principal source of nutrition for the Aboriginal people.

Josie’s paintings are in a number of important collections in Australia and she has exhibited overseas, in countries as diverse as China and the USA.

These particular paintings create a sense of visual harmony, through the use of variegated fields of immaculately applied dotting.

He grew up walking around these places and his mother’s country of Areyonga and Haast’s Bluff. He attended a mission school in Ernabella and came to Papunya in 1973. He married Violet, the sister of Michael Nelson Jagamarra, and they have four children.

In the late 80s, William and his wife were Health Workers with the Papunya Medical Service. He taught himself painting by observing other artists at work. He now paints full time for galleries, including Papunya Tula Artists group.

William has won the NT Art Award and his paintings have toured in the USA in a “Dreamings” exhibition. He has also featured with other Papunya Tula Artists in an exhibition in New York.

The Dingo is William’s personal totem and both of these paintings feature his “Dingo Dreaming” stories. The country they refer to is the Wingelina area of WA. This story is of great importance to William and he takes great pleasure in painting it.

Ronnie was born c1943 around Muyinnga, about 100 kms west of the Kintore Ranges in WA. His family travelled extensively across Pintupi territory in this region and also around Lake Mackay in the NT. He was initiated into Aboriginal Law at Yumari, near his birthplace. Ronnie and his younger brother came in from the bush at Yuendumu and later joined relatives in Papunya, where he worked as a laborer.

He began to paint in the early years of the painting movement, moving between Papunya, Yuendumu and Mt. Doreen station. He always wanted to return to traditional lands and this was made possible with the establishment of Kintore in 1981. He moved there with his family and has since emerged as one of Papunya Tula Artist’s major painters.
He has won Art Prizes and had numerous solo exhibitions, and was included in an important ceremony at the Art Gallery of NSW.

Ronnie is now one of the movement’s most sought after artists, producing stunning linear works. His in-demand works fetch high prices at auctions such as Sothebys.

Both of these paintings are superb examples of his work. They feature his rarely painted combination “Tingarri and Snake Dreaming”. While being stunning paintings, they will also prove to be an excellent investment.

Both paintings come with extensive work-in-progress photos and DVDs of the creating of the works.
